Our History
Honoring the Past. Building the Future.
Hockey has deep roots in Niagara Falls.
Long before today's players stepped onto the ice, the Niagara Falls Cataracts name was part of the city's hockey tradition. Teams carrying the Cataracts name competed during the early and mid-20th century, creating memories for local players, families, and hockey fans and making the sport part of the fabric of the Niagara Falls community.
Today, the Niagara Jr. Cataracts are proud to bring that name and spirit forward for a new generation.
The Cataracts name belongs naturally to Niagara Falls.
Our decision to embrace the Cataracts identity is about more than a new logo, new colors, or a new look. It is about reconnecting our youth hockey program with the community it represents. The Cataracts name belongs naturally to Niagara Falls—evoking the power, history, and unmistakable identity of our hometown.
Hyde Park and hockey have brought people together.
For generations, Hyde Park and hockey have brought people together. Kids learned to skate there, families spent weekends in the rink, friendships were formed, and countless young players discovered a lifelong love for the game. We want the Niagara Jr. Cataracts to once again become an important part of that community experience.
We aren't trying to recreate the past. We're building upon it.
Our goal is to revitalize youth hockey in Niagara Falls while respecting the hockey tradition that came before us. We want local children to be proud to put on a Niagara jersey, parents and grandparents to feel connected to the organization, and former players to see a little of their own hockey memories in the next generation taking the ice.
A program centered on players and community.
The Niagara Jr. Cataracts are creating a program centered on player development, character, opportunity, family, and community. We want to build an organization where young athletes can begin their hockey journey, develop their abilities, compete, make lifelong friendships, and—most importantly—feel proud of where they come from.
This is our opportunity to bring together Niagara's hockey past and its future.
A familiar name. A renewed program. A new generation of Niagara hockey.
The Cataracts are part of Niagara's history. Now it's time to write the next chapter.
Built in Niagara. Driven to Compete. Developing Players. Building Character. United as One.
